Residency Options

  • Half or full day rotating classes format:  One or two classes can visit a single location, such as a gym, music class or multi-purpose room for 30-50 minutes.  Students explore core elements of music:  beat, tempo, timbre, rhythm, meter and dynamics  while learning cultural polyrhythms and song.  Rhythms come from Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba, the U.S. and countries in Africa.   Sequential activities build student skills to culminate in improvisational music making.

  • Half or full day classroom format:   Teaching Artist Cindy Hill presents 1-4 arts-integrated lessons to your class (K-8) tying academic content standards with music standards in hands-on activities with percussion instruments for each student.  Multi-visit residencies provide 2-4 lessons, but a single class visit is also possible.   Cindy has been an arts-integrated Teaching Artist for over 25 suburban schools and the Cleveland Municipal District since 2002.  An award-winning curriculum writer, Cindy writes lessons for your special topic or curriculum unit.

  • Family or Club Fairs:  Drum circles are fun in-the-moment music experiences that connect all ages and abilities.  Within minutes the group is playing together and contributing their unique energy, creative ideas and voice.  Participants can come and go in this 45-minute rhythm celebration  Mostly, they come and STAY!
